課程概述 |
這是一門社會工作的選修課，目的是讓社會工作學生可以從歷史資檔案資料中景仰社會工作前輩們的精神與事蹟。我們都知道社會工作是一門高度人文關懷的專業。它不是純粹的科學，而是蘊含人文關懷的藝術。要培養具人文關懷的社會工作者就必須從典範學習（Learning from examples）著手。典範學習可以從人身上找到學習的榜樣，也可以從事件中提煉學習的素材。本課程試圖從社會工作的前輩們身上找到模仿的典範，從他們的事跡中找到學習的素材。這些先輩們包括當代慈善事業與社會改革的推手，英國的Josephine Butler (1828-1906)、Octavia Hill (1838-1912)、Arnold Toynbee (1852-1883)、Beatrice Webb (1858-1943) and Sidney Webb (1859-1947)、Eglantyne Jebb (1876-1928)；以及傳承早期英國慈善事業，而發展出當代社會工作專業的美國的Dorothea L. Dix (1802-1877)、Jane Addams（1860-1935）、Mary Richmond (1861-1928)、Edith Abbott (1876-1957) and Grace Abbott (1878-1939)、Mary van Kleeck (1883-1972)、Charlotte Towle (1896-1966)、Bertha Capen Reynolds（1885-1978）、Saul Alinsky（1909-1972）等人。我們將從這些前輩的足跡中找到其發願投入社會工作與社會改革的時代背景與個人承諾，再從其事跡中發覺可資學習的典範思想與行動。 |

課程目標 |
使社會工作學生從歷史資檔案資料中景仰社會工作前輩們的精神與事蹟，了解社會工作不是純粹的科學，而是蘊含人文關懷的藝術。 |

課程要求 |
本課程進行方式包括：收集資料、閱讀、討論、分享、撰寫等部分。修課的同學們選擇經典人物參與分組資料收集工作、閱讀經典人物生平事跡、課堂分享與討論，最後分組將閱讀與討論所得撰寫成「社會工作的經典人物」（名稱暫訂）出版。這是一個學習重於成績，集體重於個人的課程。每位參與者從收集資料、閱讀與討論中領會前輩們的社會改革精神。成績評量以資料收集、閱讀、討論、寫作四項的參與程度與成果為基準計算。 |
